Rhoma Young
In founding Rhoma Young & Associates (RYAA) Rhoma builds on years of hands-on practical experience and leadership. She brings a no-nonsense approach to management and HR decision making in planning and problem prevention and resolution strategies in employee/labor relations, workforce reductions, managing and evaluating employee performance and labor market forecasting. She testifies about and is a recognized expert in HR policy and practices, disabilities in the workplace, conducting investigations (DEI) and equal employment. She’s taught HR professionals at the University of California, San Francisco State, and Mills College and testifies as an expert witness in employment/workplace court cases.
Active in professional organization Rhoma chaired NCHRC’s Legislative Affairs committee, was active in SHRM’s National Legislative Committee and served on SHRM’s national Panel of Experts in EEO/Diversity. She’s an active member and has completed intense investigation training with the Association of Workplace Investigators (AWI) and is a licensed PI in California. She recently served as the HR Resource on the California Commission’s Equal Pay Taskforce. She earned an MA in management from Pepperdine University, was a Weinberg fellow at Cornell’s School of Industrial Relations, and did her undergraduate work at UCLA.
Prior to forming her RYAA consulting practice, Rhoma managed EEO for Boise Cascade (a mayor paper/forest products company with 30,000+ employees). While managing Labor Relations for a General Motors plant with over 5,000, she successfully negotiated numerous labor/management conflicts. While with Los Angeles County, she was a probation officer, engaged in significant HR changes and headed a unique program to find jobs for those on probation and parole. Rhoma moves easily from calmly handling employee disputes to shaping corporate and public policy decisions.
